Salt and Drought Stress Responses in Cultivated Beets (Beta vulgaris L.) and Wild Beet (Beta maritima L.)

چکیده

Cultivated beets, including leaf garden fodder and sugar which belong to the species Beta vulgaris L., are economically important edible crops that have been originated from a halophytic wild ancestor, maritima L. (sea beet or beet). Salt drought major abiotic stresses, limit crop growth production most studied in beets compared other environmental stresses. Characteristically, salt- drought-tolerant crops; however, prolonged persistent exposure salt stress results significant drop productivity yield. Hence, harness best benefits of cultivation, knowledge stress-coping strategies, stress-tolerant varieties, prerequisites. In current review, we summarized morpho-physiological, biochemical, molecular responses beet, red chard (B. L.), their L.) under We also described genes noncoding RNAs previously reported for roles response/tolerance. The plant biologists breeders can potentiate utilization these resources as prospective targets developing with tolerance.

Sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L.).

Creating transgenic plants is invaluable for the genetic analysis of sugar beet and will be increasingly important as sugar beet genomic technologies progress. A protocol for Agrobacterium-mediated transformation of sugar beet is described in this chapter. Our protocol is optimized for a sugar beet genotype that performs exceptionally well in tissue culture, including the steps of dedifferentia...

Drought Impact Is Alleviated in Sugar Beets (Beta vulgaris L.) by Foliar Application of Fullerenol Nanoparticles

Over the past few years, significant efforts have been made to decrease the effects of drought stress on plant productivity and quality. We propose that fullerenol nanoparticles (FNPs, molecular formula C60(OH)24) may help alleviate drought stress by serving as an additional intercellular water supply. Specifically, FNPs are able to penetrate plant leaf and root tissues, where they bind water i...

Emergence of gynodioecy in wild beet (Beta vulgaris ssp. maritima L.): a genealogical approach using chloroplastic nucleotide sequences.

Gynodioecy is a breeding system where both hermaphroditic and female individuals coexist within plant populations. This dimorphism is the result of a genomic interaction between maternally inherited cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS) genes and bi-parentally inherited nuclear male fertility restorers. As opposed to other gynodioecious species, where every cytoplasm seems to be associated with male...

Growth and dry matter partitioning in sugar beet plants (Beta vulgaris L.) under moderate drought

Growth response of sugar beet plants to drought stress applied at different growth stages has been investigated. Cessation of watering imposed moderate water stress and resulted in the reduction of the relative water content of young and old leaves maximally by 6%. However, water content in taproot was more drastically decreased than in the shoot. Water withholding reduced dry maer accumulatio...
